Percent-encode text for use in URL components

The URL Encoder applies browser-native component encoding to text, including spaces, punctuation, and non-Latin characters. Use the result where an individual path, query, or fragment value must be safely represented in a URL.

COMMON USES

When this tool is useful

  • Encode a search term before placing it in a query parameter.
  • Represent spaces and Unicode characters inside a URL component.
  • Test how an application should serialize a user-provided value.

THREE STEPS

How to use the URL Encoder

  1. Enter the text or component value you need to encode.
  2. Select Encode to produce the percent-encoded form.
  3. Insert the result into the correct URL component and test the complete URL.

PRIVACY

Your input stays in this browser

The operation runs on your device and does not require the input to be uploaded. Copy and download actions happen only when you choose them. Avoid treating encoded output as encryption, and follow your own security requirements for confidential data.

WORKED EXAMPLE

URL Encoder: input and expected result

Input or settings

hello world & café

Expected result

hello%20world%20%26%20caf%C3%A9

Spaces, ampersands, and the UTF-8 bytes for é are escaped so the value can be inserted as one query parameter.

METHOD & LIMITS

How the URL Encoder works

Processing method

The tool applies encodeURIComponent to the complete input string. Encode each parameter value before composing the URL.

What to review

Encoding a whole URL also escapes separators such as ':' and '/'. Form-urlencoded fields may use '+' for spaces; this component encoder uses '%20'.

PRACTICAL NOTES

What to know before using it

Does this encode an entire URL semantically?

It uses component encoding, so reserved separators may also be escaped. Encode individual values rather than blindly replacing a complete URL.

How are non-Latin characters handled?

They are represented through their UTF-8 byte sequence and percent escapes.
