Decode Base64 back into UTF-8 text

The Base64 Decoder converts a valid Base64 value to bytes and interprets those bytes as UTF-8 text. It is designed for textual data and preserves multilingual characters when the original value was encoded as UTF-8.

COMMON USES

When this tool is useful

  • Inspect a Base64 text field from an API or configuration value.
  • Confirm that a multilingual string was encoded and transported correctly.
  • Reverse output produced by the TextKit Hub Base64 Encoder.

THREE STEPS

How to use the Base64 Decoder

  1. Paste a Base64 string into the input panel.
  2. Select Decode to interpret it as UTF-8 text locally.
  3. Review the decoded result and confirm it matches the expected source.

PRIVACY

Your input stays in this browser

The operation runs on your device and does not require the input to be uploaded. Copy and download actions happen only when you choose them. Avoid treating encoded output as encryption, and follow your own security requirements for confidential data.

WORKED EXAMPLE

Base64 Decoder: input and expected result

Input or settings

SGVsbG8=

Expected result

Hello

Whitespace is removed before decoding. The decoded bytes must form valid UTF-8 text to appear as a successful text result.

METHOD & LIMITS

How the Base64 Decoder works

Processing method

The browser's atob function decodes the Base64 bytes, then TextDecoder reads them as UTF-8 with invalid byte sequences treated as errors.

What to review

This tool returns text, not arbitrary binary files. URL-safe Base64 containing '-' or '_' must be converted to the standard alphabet first.

PRACTICAL NOTES

What to know before using it

Can this decode files?

This page is intended for text values; it does not reconstruct arbitrary binary files.

What causes a decode error?

Invalid Base64 characters, damaged padding, or bytes that are not valid UTF-8 can prevent a text result.
