Explore nested JSON in a collapsible tree

The JSON Viewer converts a valid document into an expandable tree so you can follow nested objects and arrays without losing your place. Keys, strings, numbers, booleans, and null values use distinct visual treatments for faster inspection.

COMMON USES

When this tool is useful

  • Navigate deeply nested API responses and webhook payloads.
  • Compare object and array shapes while documenting an integration.
  • Inspect multilingual JSON values without escaped display text.

THREE STEPS

How to use the JSON Viewer

  1. Paste a valid JSON object, array, or primitive into the input panel.
  2. Select View to build the local tree representation.
  3. Expand or collapse branches to focus on the values you need.

PRIVACY

Your input stays in this browser

The operation runs on your device and does not require the input to be uploaded. Copy and download actions happen only when you choose them. Avoid treating encoded output as encryption, and follow your own security requirements for confidential data.

WORKED EXAMPLE

JSON Viewer: input and expected result

Input or settings

{"user":{"name":"Ada"},"roles":["editor"]}

Expected result

root
  user
    name: "Ada"
  roles
    0: "editor"

This text illustrates the tree hierarchy. In the interactive viewer, expand user or roles to inspect the nested values.

METHOD & LIMITS

How the JSON Viewer works

Processing method

After JSON.parse succeeds, the viewer recursively renders objects and arrays as expandable branches and primitive values as leaves.

What to review

The tree shows parsed values, so duplicate keys and original whitespace are not retained. Very large or deeply nested documents can slow the browser.

PRACTICAL NOTES

What to know before using it

Can the viewer open invalid JSON?

No. Correct syntax errors first with the validator or formatter, then rebuild the tree.

Does expanding a branch change the JSON?

No. Tree controls only change the view; your source data remains unchanged.
